In Lovington, football has always meant more than what happens beneath the lights on Friday night.
It lives in the lessons passed from coaches to players, the friendships formed through long practices, and the stories families continue telling years after the final whistle. It belongs to the players who wore the uniform, the coaches who guided them, the people who filled the stands, and the community that supported them.
Lovington Football was created to preserve and share those stories.
Team. Town. Tradition.
This independent publication will explore the people, moments, and traditions that have shaped Lovington football.
Some stories will revisit memorable games and important seasons. Others will introduce former players and coaches, preserve historical photographs, or capture memories from members of the community.
We will also look at the lessons football teaches away from the field—leadership, preparation, perseverance, responsibility, and what it means to represent a team and a town.
At the center of the publication will be Coach Faith’s Notebook, featuring stories and reflections from former Lovington head coach John “Speedy” Faith. His articles will offer a coach’s perspective on the program, its people, and the experiences that remain meaningful long after a season ends.
A History Told by the People Who Lived It
Much of a community’s history never reaches an official record book.
It remains in photographs stored in family albums, programs saved in closets, newspaper clippings tucked into scrapbooks, and memories shared around kitchen tables. Unless those stories are collected, some will eventually disappear.
Lovington Football hopes to provide them with a permanent home.
Over time, the site will include:
- Coach Faith’s stories and reflections
- Profiles of former players and coaches
- Memorable games and seasons
- Historical photographs and memorabilia
- Community-submitted memories
- Conversations about the continuing tradition of Lovington football
- A future Lovington Football podcast
Help Us Preserve the Story
This publication will grow through the participation of the Lovington community.
If you have a photograph, program, game-day memory, or story about someone who contributed to Wildcat football, we would like to hear from you. Every contribution helps create a fuller history for former players, current families, and future generations.
Lovington Football is an independent publication and is not an official website of Lovington Municipal Schools. Its purpose is to celebrate, document, and preserve the stories surrounding the program with care and respect.
This is only the beginning.
Welcome to Lovington Football.
